Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery)
Drooping upper lids and puffy bags below your eyes can make you look older and more fatigued than you are. Dr. Lee B. Daniel can help you look more like your alert, authentic self by delicately removing fat, excess skin and muscle from eyelids.
A blepharoplasty procedure can be done alone or in combination with other facial plastic surgery procedures such as the facelift or brow lift.
Is Blepharoplasty an Option for Me?
If you are affected by puffy bags below your eyes, drooping upper lids, or stretched eyelid skin, blepharoplasty is likely an option for you. Individuals considering the procedure should have realistic expectations for surgery and be in good general health.
Those with hypothyroidism, Graves’s disease or other thyroid issues, high blood pressure, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, or glaucoma may need to check with their eye doctor, depending on Dr. Daniel's recommendations.
How Does Eyelid Surgery Work?
Eyelid surgery requires very small incisions near the areas where loose skin and fat have collected around your eyes. Dr. Daniel will make the incisions following the natural creases of the upper eyelid, and the area below the lashes of the lower eyelid. After he has separated the skin from the underlying fatty tissue and muscle, he will remove excess fat and and skin. The incisions are then closed with fine sutures.

In select cases, a special technique called the transconjunctival technique may be used. This is often suitable for patients who display a lesser amount of fat around the eyelids. In this approach, an incision is made in the lower lid. No skin is removed – only a small amount of fat.
How Will I Look and Feel After Eyelid Surgery?
Most patients should expect to be in recovery for 7-10 days following eyelid surgery. Dr. Daniel will provide specific postoperative instructions for you to follow. He may advise you to keep your head elevated for several days, and use cold compresses to reduce swelling and bruising. You may need to postpone wearing of contact lenses for about two weeks and postpone exercise for approximately three weeks. You should be able to appreciate the results of your eyelid surgery after about two weeks.
