Breast Implants (Augmentation)
Many women dream of having breasts that are fuller and more shapely. Dr. Lee B. Daniel provides the most natural-looking results by using only small incisions and by placing implants under the breast tissue and/or the underlying muscle instead of over the muscle. Depending on the individual and how much breast tissue they have, implants may also be placed over the muscle.
Dr. Daniel also uses the very best in surgical breast implants made by the Mentor Corporationand Allergan. Dr. Daniel is a board certified expert and can help you make an informed decision on what type of incision, placement and implant would be best for you.
Breast implants are very popular in Eugene, especially for women in their 20s or as part of the "mommy makeover," a set of procedures designed to restore the body to its pre-pregnancy condition. The "mommy makeover" typically includes a breast lift and tummy tuck.
Dr. Daniel offers both saline and gel breast implants for women interested in increasing or balancing breast size.

Saline breast implants consist of a silicone rubber shell that is either pre-filled or inflated to the desired size with sterile saline during surgery. Most implants have a valve that can be sealed by the surgeon.
Gel breast implants have an outer shell, also made of silicone, that is filled with a fixed amount of silicone gel. Gel implants vary in shell surface, shape, profile, volume, shell thickness, and number of shell lumens. Silicone gel-filled implants do not have an adjustable fill range.
Switching from Saline to Silicone Breast Implants
There are a few reasons patients ask Eugene plastic surgeon Dr. Daniel to replace their saline breast implants with silicone breast implants. Though some patients may prefer to keep their saline implants in place, the following benefits are enough for many women to make the switch.
Silicone breast implants typically have a more natural appearance and are softer to the touch. Because they more closely mimic how a natural breast feels and looks, women may choose them over saline implants.
The weight of a silicone breast implant is also less than that of a similarly-sized saline implant. Due to this, patients may experience a minimized chance of the implant “bottoming out” or dropping due to gravity.
Additionally, silicone implants also have a diminished appearance of external visible rippling of the breast, a side effect that more commonly can occur with saline implants.
How much do breast implants cost in Eugene?
The cost of breast augmentation at our practice ranges from $6500 to $7500, with the type of implant factoring into this total cost. Silicone gel breast implants cost slightly more than saline implants, but most patients say they find the feel and look of gel implants to be more natural.
Are gel implants better than saline implants?
Some surgeons are of the opinion that gel implants have a more natural look and feel than saline implants because silicone gel has a texture that is similar to breast tissue.
Saline implants do have some advantages over gel implants. They require a shorter incision. A gel breast implant rupture is harder to detect. If a saline implant ruptures, it deflates and the problem is felt and seen almost immediately.
Are breast implants safe?
The Institute of Medicine has concluded that there is "no definitive evidence linking breast implants to cancer, neurological diseases, neurological problems or other systemic diseases." In 2006, the FDA approved the use of silicone gel breast implants after the single largest patient study ever conducted, in cooperation with Mentor Corporation.
