Breast Lift (Mastopexy)
Removes excess skin, raising the breasts to create a firmer and younger appearance. Through aging the skin loses elasticity and the breasts begin to appear lower on the body. A breast lift removes the appearance of aging by elevating the breasts to a youthful height.
The procedure:
There are three variations of incisions in the breast:
- An initial incision around the areola followed by a concentric incision around the initial one.
- An incision around the areola with another incision down the front of the breast beneath the areola to the fold of the breast (inframammary fold).
- An incision around the areola with another incision down the front of the breast beneath the areola to the fold, and horizontally along the fold of the breast.
Following the initial incision excess breast tissue is removed to reshape the breast. If the skin has become less elastic, excess skin is additionally removed and the nipple and areola are positioned higher, tightening the skin surrounding.
Healing process:
Results are immediately noticeable. Swelling decreases during post-operative recovery and the lines on the breasts from the incisions will fade.
A breast lift does not alter the overall size of the breasts. For fuller looking breasts, augmentation using implants may be recommended.
