Dysport

Injections of botulinum toxin have become one of the quickest and safest methods of addressing the signs of facial aging. Dr. Lee B. Daniel performs Dysport injections at his plastic surgery clinic in Eugene, Oregon.

What is Dysport?

Dysport is a cosmetic form of botulinum toxin similar to Botox®. Its unique chemical makeup allows it to block nerve impulses and temporarily paralyze targeted muscles. By allowing some muscles to relax and others to stretch, the skin can be given a smoother, more refreshed appearance. Botulinum toxin was used for therapeutic purposes for many years before being approved by the FDA for cosmetic use.

Reasons for Dysport

Facial wrinkles and lines can often be treated without the need for surgery. Some of the problem areas that Dysport can target include:

  • Frown lines
  • Crow’s feet
  • Forehead furrows and creases
  • Lines around the mouth and lips
  • Wrinkled skin on the neck

Some studies have also indicated that botulinum toxin is effective in relieving migraine headaches, excessive sweating, and muscle spasms in the neck and eyes. Dysport can be combined with other therapies to fully rejuvenate the skin. Your doctor can discuss whether Botox or Dysport may be better suited to address specific problems.

What Happens During the Procedure?

Dysport injections take about 15 minutes and can often be performed during the course of a lunch break. After discussing your treatment goals with Dr. Daniel, he will identify the points of injection, cleanse the area, and inject the Dysport with a very fine needle. Most patients report only minimal discomfort.

After Your Dysport Injection

You can return to your daily routine immediately after receiving an injection of Dysport. Temporary side effects include redness, bruising, and stinging, which should soon pass. You should avoid rubbing or massaging the treated areas after the injection. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience breathing problems, difficulty swallowing, or other symptoms that may indicate a rare reaction. The effects of Dysport take a few days to appear and usually last between 3-4 months. Many patients report longer-lasting effects after repeated treatments.
