What does a "fractional laser" do?

The Fraxel Restore Laser is a fractionated Erbium laser, which produces thousands of tiny but deep columns of treatment in your skin, known as microscopic treatment zones, or MTZs.

During treatment, the Fraxel laser penetrates deep into the dermis to eliminate old epidermal pigmented cells. For every microscopic zone the laser targets and treats intensively, it leaves the surrounding tissue unaffected and intact. This "fractional" treatment allows the skin to heal much faster than if the entire area were treated at once, using the body's natural healing process to create new, healthy tighter tissue to replace skin imperfections.

What conditions does the Fraxel laser treat?

Fraxel is FDA cleared for wrinkles around the eyes, melasma, acne scars, surgical scars, pigmented lesions, and actinic keratoses. Fraxel is wonderful for treating and reversing sun damage on the face, neck, and decollatage (upper chest).
