Lip Augmentation
Full and luscious lips have become increasingly popular in recent years as a sign of youth and vitality. Lip augmentation, a procedure that can enhance the appearance of the lips, has also grown in popularity, with more than 25,000 procedures performed annually.
What is Lip Augmentation?
Lip augmentation is a non-surgical procedure that can dramatically improve the fullness of the lips. It involves the injection of a dermal filler such as Restylane® or Juvederm®. These products are made from hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the skin that promotes suppleness and provides volume.
Reasons for Lip Augmentation
The loss of volume in the lips can be caused by the natural aging process or many other reasons. Lip augmentation is suited to targeting thin or sunken lips that can make a person appear old or grim. The technique can also be used to address wrinkles and fine lines above the upper lip.
What Happens During the Procedure?
The procedure only takes about 15 minutes and can be conveniently performed during the course of a lunch break. Dr. Lee B. Daniel cleans and marks the treatment site before injecting the hyaluronic acid into and beneath the dermis. You may receive a topical anesthetic to alleviate any discomfort.
After Lip Augmentation
After undergoing lip augmentation, you can return to your daily routine with no downtime, although you should avoid strenuous exercise, sun, and alcoholic beverages for 24 hours. The benefits of lip augmentation are not permanent, as the body naturally absorbs and metabolizes the hyaluronic acid after about six months. Most patients return for touch-up treatments.
