Permanent Laser Hair Removal
Both men and women who deal with unwanted body hair can find relief in laser hair removal treatments at our Eugene, Oregon plastic surgery practice.
Temporary methods of hair removal can be painful, expensive and messy. Now there’s a way for both men and women to address unwanted hair once and for all. The laser is not new technology. However it is the gold standard in laser hair removal. It is the Lumenis LightSheer XC – the only laser treatment the FDA has approved for “permanent hair removal” for all skin colors as well as sun-tanned skin.
Who Should Consider Laser Hair Removal?
You may benefit from laser hair removal if you are tired of undergoing waxing, shaving, electrolysis, and plucking in order to achieve a smoother skin surface. Other individuals who benefit from laser hair removal in Eugene suffer from hirsutism or pseudofolliculitis (barber’s itch).
Light Sheer XC effectively treats:
- Face (chin, cheeks, upper lip)
- Underarms
- Bikini line
- Neck
- Legs
- Chest and abdomen
- Areola
- Feet
- Arms
- Back
How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?
Your laser hair removal treatment will be performed in an office setting. The desired areas for treatment are cleansed and shaved before being scanned with the laser. The laser operates at a low energy. As the energy passes through the skin, the pigment of the hair follicle absorbs the energy. The laser energy disables the follicle, preventing re-growth.
Multiple sessions are needed to get hair in each growth phase. It is important that the patient cease all bleaching, plucking, and electrolysis during their series of laser hair removal treatments.
After Laser Hair Removal
A temporary change in skin pigment may be present following treatment and the skin will be sensitive. Most patients experience between 10-25 percent reduction in hair growth with each treatment, and the percentage of hairs removed each session varies according to the area of the body. Areas with thin skin, like the armpits and bikini area, are more responsive to treatment, whereas areas with thick skin, like the back and chin, require more attention.
You may need to return for another hair removal treatment every 4-8 weeks, depending on your aesthetician or plastic surgeon's recommendations. Between treatments, you should avoid sun exposure and apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher.
