Prior to your miraDry treatment, you’ll have a one-on-one consultation with one of our medical professionals. During this time, you can discuss your goals for hyperhidrosis treatment, any concerns you might have and the results you can expect to see. You may be asked further questions about your overall health or lifestyle.
If you’re unsure about the cause of your excessive sweating, it’s a good idea to get some lab tests done to determine whether an underlying medical condition is the root cause. For instance, an overactive thyroid or low blood sugar can contribute to excessive sweat production.
If an underlying medical condition is discovered, that condition should be treated before any hyperhidrosis treatments are applied. However, if there is no other medical condition causing your excessive sweating, you may be a good candidate for our miraDry treatment.
MiraDry is a noninvasive procedure that uses electromagnetic energy to safely and effectively destroy sweat and odor glands through a process called thermolysis. Once the glands are destroyed they do not grow back. Some individuals even quit wearing deodorant since the glands are no longer producing sweat and odor.
One miraDry treatment takes about an hour to complete and causes minimal discomfort as we use numb the targeted area beforehand. You may experience some swelling, soreness, tingling and numbness after treatment, but these sensations should clear-up within a few days.
As with most procedures, your results may vary. While most people see results after a single treatment, some may benefit from 2 to 3 treatments.
Not ready to commit to a permanent solution to your excessive sweating? Give BOTOX® injections a shot. BOTOX® injections can temporarily stop hyperhidrosis by causing the muscles that contribute to sweat production to become temporarily paralyzed. Results with BOTOX typically last 4 to 6 months before you need to retreat the area.
A medical professional at our office can help you decide on the best course of action for your needs.
