Electrolysis

Most men and women have unwanted hair somewhere on their body or face. At-home shaving, tweezing and waxing can offer a temporary fix, but what if there was a way to permanently remove areas of unwanted hair?

We’re here to tell you that there is. We offer electrolysis, the only FDA-approved method for permanent hair removal. We can target unwanted hair, destroying the hair follicles so that they can’t regrow and you can enjoy your smoother skin for years to come!

If you’d like to learn more about your hair removal options at our practice, please call 541-687-8900 or contact our office in Eugene today for more details. We offer free consultations for our cosmetic surgery and medical spa patients.

Before Your Electrolysis Appointment

At your consultation appointment, we’ll review the areas of unwanted hair you have and discuss treatment options. In addition to electrolysis, we also offer advanced laser hair removal with the LightSheer® DESIRE™ laser. This gives you multiple options for effective treatment of excess hair, and we often combine the methods on different areas of the body so that we can address all of a patient’s unwanted hair most effectively.

Electrolysis can be a great choice for hair anywhere on the face or body. It is also effective for the full range of hair and skin types/colors. Because each hair needs to be treated individually, electrolysis is almost always more time consuming than laser hair removal, especially when treating larger areas such as the legs or back. As a result, many people choose it for smaller areas such as the eyebrows, lower face, or pubic area. However, with enough time and attention, any trouble spot can be treated with very long-lasting results.

Your Electrolysis Procedure

Sarah Jensen, our electrologist, has been practicing since 2010 and received her education from the Aesthetics Institute of Portland. She operates a Fischer SE-5, which uses electrolysis, thermolysis and “The Blend.” Each of these modalities are completely customizable so that every hair and skin type can achieve permanent hair removal.

Your electrolysis treatment will be performed right in our office. The treatment area will be cleaned and then each individual hair in the treatment area will be targeted using the electrolysis device. A small heat/pinch sensation may be felt as each follicle is treated. We can apply a topical anesthetic for improved comfort if needed.

Like laser hair removal, multiple sessions are required to destroy hair follicles in an active growth phase. It’s absolutely necessary to refrain from bleaching, plucking or having laser hair removal in the treatment area while your electrolysis treatments are being performed.

Healing Process for Electrolysis

There’s no downtime after each electrolysis treatment, and any discomfort felt during the procedure should not linger. Only actively growing hairs will be treated on each visit – the total number of visits you need depends how thick the hair growth is and how fast your hair grows. Additional treatments can be performed once a week up to once every 12 weeks, depending on hair growth.
